"A JOYOUS WORK OF, FLAT-OUT GENIUS."

- Esquire

"A MESMERIZING MIND GAME."

- Rolling Stone

"OFTEN BRILLIANT AND NEVER SIMPLE-MINDED OR DULL"

- The New Yorker

"A magnum opus."

- LA TIMES

"A PROVOCATION WORTH TALKING ABOUT. An obsessive, violent, and at times remarkably eccentric sex epic that is often brilliant and never simple-minded or dull. It remains formidable throughout its four-hour length and demanding to think about afterward."

- David Denby, The New Yorker

"A JOYOUS WORK OF FLAT-OUT GENIUS. It’s a blast, full of life and energy and ideas and humor and sexy naked bodies."

- John H. Richardson, Esquire

"IT’S EASY, AND SO VERY TEMPTING, TO DISMISS LARS VON TRIER AS A JOKE - IF ONLY HIS MOVIES WEREN’T SO BLOODY BRILLIANT. What’s most disquieting is how funny, tender, thoughtful, and truthful it is. THERE ARE MOMENTS THAT PROMPT SOMETHING CLOSE TO AWE."

- Ty Burr, Boston Globe

"IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO DISMISS VON TRIER AS MERELY A HYPE-MONGER. He’s too damnably good a filmmaker for that. Watching “Nymphomaniac” is to be reminded of his superb skills in creating vivid worlds and characters on screen."

- Ann Hornaday, Washington Post

"IT’S A THRILLING, UPROARIOUS VISUAL AND INTELLECTUAL JOURNEY that surely will not please every viewer, but along the way breaks free of all established notions about what a respectable movie is and how it’s supposed to behave. Von Trier creates episodes of brilliant verbal repartee, ludicrous slapstick comedy and piercing emotional power, often overlapping."

- Andrew O’Hehir, Salon

"Lars von Trier understands the art and craft of making movies, the power the form is capable of combined with the skill to achieve it, about as well as anyone working in the world today. The film provides a shifting variety of insights, emotions, unexpected lightness and moments of visceral shock."

- Mark Olsen, LA Times

"A MESMERIZING MIND GAME."

- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

"A TANTALIZING, OCCASIONALLY FUNNY, DEEPLY NEUROTIC MEMOIR OF A WOMAN OF PLEASURE."

"YOU’RE UNLIKELY TO TURN AWAY."

- Manohla Darghis, NY Times

"A WILD, SPRAWLING ORGY OF THE SUBLIME AND THE RIDICULOUS."

- Dave Calhoun, Time Out New York

"WHO NEEDS 50 SHADES OF GREY WHEN YOU’VE GOT LARS VON TRIER? A provocative, nuanced and even empathetic account of one woman’s attempts to understand and perhaps reconcile the factors that are bound up in sex. IT’S THE WORK OF A FLAMBOYANT SALESMAN AND A MAJOR ARTIST."

- Ethan Alter, Film Journal International

"A FEROCIOUSLY ENTERTAINING MAGNUM OPUS. A SHAPE-SHIFTING, CARNAL AND INTELLECTUAL THRILL RIDE OF A MOVIE. A veritable Brandenburg Concerto of disparate genres and moods masterfully blended into a seamless whole."

- Scott Foundas, Variety

"HILARIOUS, VISUALLY ARRESTING AND INTENSE."

- Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic

"If it weren't for the explicit sexual encounters, this could be an Ibsen or a Strindberg play."

- Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

"IT’S A BIG, OPEN FILM, one that finds von Trier prankish and, at times, disarmingly sincere."

- Matt Prigge, Metro NY

"The foundation of the film is a lengthy conversation that wouldn’t be out of place in a Bergman film. VonTrier is on his game here. Gainsbourg and Skarsgård are splendid."

- Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star-Tribune

"Von Trier does a masterful job of presenting Joe's life as dominated by and, in large parts, electrified by sex."

- Ela Bittencourt, Slant

- Justin Chang, Variety

"Filthy, often funny, and kind of fabulous."
